Tifani Hall

April 21, 2004 -  When Tifani was born it was a relief.  The nine months of throwing up every single day was over.  We prayed for a quick and easy delivery and God gave me that- only an hour and a half.  I always joke that because I have such terrible pregnancies I deserve to have fast and easy deliveries.  God obviously agrees. Jenn

What we didn’t expect, which I am sure no parent does, was to hear two weeks later that our daughter had a heart defect.  A little murmur at birth.  We went in on a Friday afternoon for the routine visit and the doctor says, “Lots of babies have that, it’s probably nothing, but lets do an EKG just to be sure.”  That night we get a call from a cardiologist who happened to be at the hospital and decided to go ahead and take a look at Tifani’s EKG.  He tells us to come in first thing in the morning for an echocardiogram.  Two weeks old and it all comes crashing down.  When you hear something is wrong with your child, there is just nothing like it.  You wish it were you with the problem, never your child.  Tifani was diagnosed with Levo-Transposition of the Great Vessels or Ventricular Inversion. Which is where your left ventricle is on the right and your right ventricle is on the left, there is more to it so here is a reference http://www.emedicine.com/ped/topic2400.htm Also, she was diagnosed with a Ventricular Septal Defect or “hole in the heart” http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=11066 , Pulminary Stenosis  which is a blockage or narrowing in the valve. http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=1321, and a valve regurgitation or a moderately “leaky valve”.  Needless to say, it was hard to hear, but then we had to give her to God.  What else could we do?  Not all the worrying in the world would change this, only God can.  It is so hard to do, but you know what?  Once I made that decision it was easy.  I honestly became full of peace… just peace.  Don’t get me wrong, I definitely have times when I get scared, then I have to pray and I ask for prayer from other people in the church.  And I give her back to God.

You wouldn’t know anything was wrong with Tifani looking at her.  The Cardiologist was happy that she had no symptoms so he said we would watch her.  He said she could stay like this as long as it doesn’t cause a problem, but she can’t get better, it is a defect.  We will watch to see that she doesn’t get worse.

We didn’t accept that, we prayed for a miracle.

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.   Matthew 11: 28-30

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.  I do not give to you as the world gives.  Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.  John 14:27

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.  Hebrews 11:1

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Hebrews 11:6

So, in November 2005 we went to our routine echo appointment and the doctor was amazed.  Tifani’s “hole” was gone.  Stenosis…gone.  What does her chart say?  Ventricular Septal Defect – spontaneously closed, Pulmonary Stenosis – resolved.  The leaky valve is down to minimal.  The doctor even admitted to us that this just never happens.  I told him that we have been praying, and he said, “Well, your prayers worked.”

What more can I say?  God is awesome.
